May 8th from 5-8 pm at Fairfax and Marin county's favorite music club,
Dave Getz will be presenting his new Jazz quartet featuring some world
class players:
Josh Workman, guitar, Bob Johnson, tenor sax, Pierre Josephs, bass and
Dave Getz, drums. They will be playing compositions by Charlie Parker,
Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver and many other giants of modern jazz.
Big Brother and the Holding Co has played this venue several times in
the last 5 years and Dave has also played there numerous times with
other artists including the legendary Bob Dorough.
Gary Graham, the owner of the club personally asked Dave if he would
put together a 'once-a-month' music event of his choosing. This was an
opportunity for Dave to go back to the music that originally inspired him
to play drums.
The other musicians in the group are all masters of their craft:
Josh Workman, aside from writing for Guitar Player magazine has
recorded and performed with Kim Nalley, Larry Vukovich and many of
the Bay Area top jazz artists.
Bob Johnson has lead his own quartet for many years, playing all of the
Bay Areas top jazz venues. He is a highly accomplished saxaphonist in
the tradition of greats like Sonny Rollins and Joe Henderson.
Pierre Josephs played in the Stan Kenton band and is currently the
bassist with Harold Jones' (Tony Bennett, Count Basie) big band the Bossmen.
This promises to be a cool, beautiful and VERY hip way to end your
weekend; hope you can make it down. May 8th, 19 Broadway, Fairfax,
CA 5-8 pm NO COVER
